Modern Quilt - Local Groups

Listed here are modern quilt groups that meet in the UK and those that have an online presence only. Some of the groups have one or more prerequisites to membership.

People are always looking for a group or groups to join. If you know of, or already belong to a modern quilt group somewhere in the UK, please consider sharing the group's details here for others to find. Please mail details to the Website  Editor.

Groups known to be affiliated to the Quilters Guild of the British Isles (or about to become so) are identified below and listed first.

East Midlands: East Midlands Modern Quilt Guild - affiliated QGBI

Meets on the second Saturday of every month (except August and December) 10-4 at Bradmore Village Hall, just off the A60 south of Nottingham.  We have members from all over the East Midlands - Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Notts, even Northamptonshire.  We are not affiliated with the US MQG but are an affiliate group with the Quilters Guild of Great Britain.

Region 8 : Essex Modern Quilt Group - affiliated QGBI (new group)

This is a new group launching September 2018.

The group was formerly a sub-group of Quay Quilters and is now re-launching:

  • with a new day/time
  • with a new venue that is more central and easily accessible, and
  • opening up membership across Region 8.

See the flyer for more information. Please get in touch if you are interested in joining the group. Membership will be restricted to 20 initially whilst the group finds its feet and a waiting list will be put in place if necessary. There are plans afoot to launch a group in Suffolk as well but the planning is less advanced. If you would be interested in joining a group in Suffolk, please get in touch anyway and make your interest known.

We are not affiliated to the US MQG but will become affiliated to QGBI upon launch.

We hold a members only meeting on the third Saturday of each month, from 10am to 4pm. We have fun & chatter, demos, show & tell, coffee & cakes! We welcome visitors, by invitation only, as & when space available & for a £10 day fee. We make quilts for charity as a group & organised an island wide appeal in aid of QUILTS FOR GRENFELL, & succeeded in mailing 42 quilts & 180 QAYG blocks  to the London appeal HQ, in a little over a week!

We held our first retreat in the Spring of 2017 which was a resounding success, with quilters flying over from England to attend. Our 2018 retreat plans are already well underway, we are excited to be having Jenny (Pappersaxsten) Haynes join us as our weekend tutor.
