In 2014 Gill set up GillyMac Designs to teach local children and adults to sew. Gill quickly won national awards with her children’s classes and was recruited to teach Liberty of London courses and works nationally for the Quilters Guild of the British Isles. Gill’s work has been exhibited around the UK as part of the GENArt movement, including being shown at the Turner Contemporary Gallery.
Gill runs many weekly adults, junior and teen class, and has grown a large, vibrant online community over the past five years. In 2019 Gill started to deliver online on-demand courses and moved all her teaching online in 2020.
For 2021 Gill expects her teaching program to remain online. Her Virtual Retreats, which started in 2019, are now a regular feature in her class schedule. Gill’s teaching style is known to be relaxed, informative and genuine. Her ambition for GillyMac has always been to deliver world-class teaching in an accessible local and online environment. Recently Gill launched a free series of Teen Sewing Videos which are available via her website. There are eight FREE online projects ready for teens access whenever they want, with this number set to grow significantly this year.
Gill is an active member of the Quilters Guild of the British Isles, of the Modern Quilt Guild and each year supports the development of sewing as a skill for the charitable Duke of Edinburgh Awards program.
